Sheppard Associates/ Sheppard Clinic was founded in the 1980s by psychiatrist Dr Henry Gallay as a community-based center for people
(i.e., patients) with a spectrum of behavioral, psychological, psychiatric and neuropsychiatric issues. It was located in the Sheppard/Bathurst area of Toronto. Approximately a dozen psychiatrists
and medical MD-psychotherapists worked at the clinic. The clinic served some 25,000 different people (i.e., patients) from a wide portion of the greater Toronto area (GTA) until the end of 2015 when
Dr Gallay passed away.
The goal of Sheppard Associates/Clinic was to deliver the highest quality care in a community environment (i.e., out of the hospital environment) and help people (i.e., patients) to have full,
satisfying and successful lives.
After the death of Dr Gallay, the original Sheppard Clinic building was sold but Sheppard Clinic North, in the north of Toronto, was set up by Dr Howard Schneider to provide continuity of care to
some of the people (i.e., patients) being cared for at the original Sheppard Clinic. Sheppard Clinic North's office operated from 2016 to 2020 when Covid-19 resulted in the shutdown of much of the
city. Sheppard Clinic North transitioned to largely virtual care by 2021.
